Help with shopping
If you find doing grocery shopping difficult, you could get it delivered by a local shop or order online.
Most major supermarkets have online shopping websites. Age UK Berkshire have an Easy Shop service that can help you with your shopping for a small fee. You can also find shopping services and agencies that help with shopping on our West Berkshire Directory.
If you need help getting to and from the shops, West Berkshire Council's community transport may be useful.
Lunch clubs
Lunch clubs are an opportunity to meet people as well as enjoy a meal without needing to prepare it yourself. Many lunch clubs also offer the chance to take part in social activities.
You can find lunch clubs on our West Berkshire Directory. Some lunch clubs will be funded (so they're free for you), but some you will need to pay for.
Some clubs will offer help with travel, but contact the club directly to see if they can help. Alternatively, West Berkshire Council's community transport service can help.
Having meals delivered to your home
West Berkshire Council do not provide a meal delivery service, but there are companies that do offer this service in our area. The meals can be hot, frozen or chilled and can be delivered on the days you choose. You can get meals delivered for a short period of time or permanently. Some meal providers are also able to cater for special diets.
You can search your postcode on the Meals on Wheels website to find local providers. For frozen meals, you could consider companies like Wiltshire Farm Foods or Oakhouse Foods. You can also find meal services on the West Berkshire Directory.
Fair Close Centre deliver hot meals in Newbury and Thatcham.
Equipment to help with eating
You may find it useful having equipment to help you eat, such as plate guards or easy-grip cutlery. You can find equipment providers on the West Berkshire Directory.
Help from a care agency
Care agencies may be a good option if you:
- need someone else to prepare your meals
- have a schedule of medication
- have set times you need to eat
- have special dietary requirements
