How we do co-production in adult social care

An illustration of a pair of hands shaking, on a turquoise background.

We work closely with local residents, community organisations and professionals to make sure that everyone has a voice in how Adult Social Care in West Berkshire is developed and delivered.

Types of co-production

We use co-production when developing our services:

  • co-design: working together to plan new services or make improvements
  • co-delivery: involving people with lived experience in training, events and peer support
  • co-evaluation: reviewing services together to see what's working and what could improve

Our approach

We use a range of approaches to hear from and work with people:

  • workshops and co-design sessions to plan new services
  • focus groups and listening events to explore experiences
  • surveys and online forms to gather feedback
  • peer-led sessions supported by people with lived experience
  • partnership boards and forums, such as the Learning Disability Partnership Board and Carers Strategy Group

We will:

  • be clear about how people can influence outcomes
  • create respectful, inclusive spaces for everyone to contribute, removing barriers that prevent people from taking part
  • share openly what we've learned and what has changed as a result of your input
  • listen carefully and act on what people tell us
  • learn and improve through ongoing feedback

Making engagement inclusive

We want everyone to have the chance to get involved. To make engagement easier, we:

  • offer both in-person and online ways to take part
  • provide materials in plain English and easy read formats
  • arrange support such as interpreters if needed
  • reach out to seldom-heard groups to make sure all voices are represented
  • work with you to understand how you want to work with us
