Co-production in adult social care
Working together to shape adult social care in West Berkshire. Everyone has a voice; everyone can make a difference.
At West Berkshire Council, we believe that the best services are designed with the people who use them. We're committed to being open, inclusive and transparent in how we work.
What is co-production?
Co-production is a process that involves residents as equal partners with elected members and council officers in the design, delivery and evaluation of services.
It means allowing residents, carers, families, professionals and community partners to share their knowledge and experience to shape the support we provide.
It's about doing things together, from the beginning, rather than asking for views after decisions have been made.

Co-production in adult social care
In adult social care, co-production involves professionals working alongside people with lived experience of care and support to design, deliver and review services. People who draw on care and support, and their carers, are experts in their own lives. Their experiences help us understand what works and how we can improve services.
Co-production helps us to:
- design better and fairer services, built on real experience
- build trust and understanding between residents and professionals
- use resources wisely, focusing on what matters most to people
- meet our Care Act 2014 duties to involve people in decisions about their care
- meet our vision of "helping people live well, safely and independently in their communities"
