Bulky Waste Collections
Collection of large or bulky items, such as sofas, fridges or mattresses.
If you are getting rid of items that are in a good and reusable condition, please consider donating them to charity, resell or offer them on a free site such as Freecycle or Freegle.
Charities that collect household furniture and electrical items for reuse around West Berkshire include the Community Furniture Project and the British Heart Foundation. Please check their website for their requirements.
Council collection
As part of the bulky waste collections service, we will pick up large items from your home and take them away on your behalf. This service is for bulky, large items such as sofas, tables, chairs, mattresses and beds - hazardous waste, commercial waste and clinical household waste are not covered.
Please note: we do not collect fixtures and fittings such as carpets or fitted wardrobes - you can take these to one of our Recycling Centres.
Where possible, please leave item(s) out for collection in the front garden. We ask that you avoid breaking up upholstered items such as sofas and chairs.
To make sure collection can be made, please do not try to assist the collection team. Do not place out any items that have not been booked in for collection.
Charges
There is a charge for collecting bulky waste, and all collections need to be booked in advance. We are running the standard collection service only, where items are left outside your home for collection - for up to five items, the cost is £60.
Items for collection are separate - so a sofa would count as a single item, but a three-piece suite is counted as three separate items - ask us if you're unsure.
Requesting a collection
You can request a collection by calling Customer Services secure payment line: 01635 503828. We are unable to arrange collections via email.
We no longer accept cash payments, but you can pay with a debit or credit card.
Please make sure your items are ready for us to pick up by 6am on the day of scheduled collection.
Waste removal
Collection of your items will take place by staff contracted by Veolia, our waste contractor. They will come to collect your items in a branded vehicle and be wearing a grey and orange uniform.
If you pay for someone else to come and remove waste from your property, please ensure the person or company holds a valid waste carriers licence. You can find information about your duty of care here.
