A Heart's Permission by Alan Sowersby
Revelation and Catharsis,
Words I have come to understand,
Not normally part of my dialogue,
(nor would I dismiss them out of hand).
But they appear to have significance,
At this juncture in my life,
As mental instabilities,
Cause turbulence and strife.
I looked them up in the dictionary,
To confirm my interpretation,
Of their etymological provenance,
And of their proper application.
It seems they are a perfect fit,
To explain my frame of mind,
Enables me to remould myself,
To create a future kind.
Of man that celebrates the skills he has,
The energy and optimism,
Evaporates fears and anxieties,
That brutal self-criticism.
Revelation was my starting point,
Of this mental rewiring sequence,
The boldness that I summoned up,
To confess my inner weakness.
The process of releasing stress,
Those deeply held emotions,
Was Catharsis, by any other name,
Like the touch of a soothing lotion.
My heart it needs this future path,
And it's given its permission,
To replace the person that I used to be,
With this remodelled new edition.
