Advice for new refugees

These pages aim to help and advise people who have recently received refugee status on the next steps to settling in to life in West Berkshire.

If you receive a positive decision on your asylum application, you will need to leave your Home Office accommodation within 56 days. You do not need to leave Home Office accommodation until the date on your 'discontinuation letter'. This is a letter given to you by your accommodation manager after you have received your decision letter.

You will be able to prove your new immigration status through an eVisa. Details of how to access your eVisa will be sent to you within 14 days of getting your decision letter. It is important to immediately check that the details on your eVisa are correct. If there are errors, report an error with your eVisa on GOV.UK straight away.

If you are having problems resolving any errors, or do not have a correct eVisa before needing to leave your Home Office Accommodation then you must contact Migrant Help for advice. You can also contact West Berkshire Action for Refugees (WBAR).

It is important that you start planning for what to do when you need to leave your Home Office accommodation. The following pages will take you through what to do next.
