You've probably seen artificial intelligence talked about a lot in the media recently and we've been thinking about where we might use it across the organisation.

One of these areas is recruitment.

Job adverts can be time-consuming to create, and the pressure to accurately convey requirements while remaining engaging can be a challenge.

By using ChatGPT, an AI language model developed by OpenAI, we're able to automatically generate drafts of compelling job adverts and LinkedIn posts.

We've integrated a new online form that managers will use to request to recruit a new member of staff with ChatGPT's application programing interface (API), and the example below is a job advert for a fictitious customer service advisor role:

The system's understanding of industry jargon and ability to incorporate persuasive language means that the generated posts should capture the attention of qualified candidates, driving more applications and expanding the council's talent pool.

By providing basic information such as job title, location, and salary, we can use the AI model to generate the job advert above and also engaging LinkedIn posts that highlight the unique opportunities and benefits of working at the council, such as the one below:

In both cases what is produced isn't perfect and will require some human intervention before they're published, but it does make the task of writing both of these a lot quicker than starting from scratch.

In fact we estimate it'll more than half the time we spend on this task and cost just 0.4 pence each time we use it.

As we're not using personal data, everything we send ChatGPT will be in the public domain so there should be no privacy issues, and we're now looking at where can do something similar to streamline similar processes to enhance efficiency across the organsation.
