Armed forces support: health and wellbeing (including mental health)

We know that some members of the armed forces may have been wounded in action, experienced serious injuries or have been affected by life changing illness while serving this country.

We can all make healthier lifestyle choices to improve our physical and mental health. The NHS website provides some useful hints and tips for keeping healthy:

Mental health

For general information, guidance and support for your mental health, the MIND website is a good place to start.

MIND provide guidance about available support and services, information about legal rights, and information about types of mental health problems, amongst other things.

Support for veterans

Veterans in the wider community may not have serious or enduring injuries, but their conditions might be attributed to their military service. Veterans, like all West Berkshire residents, have the right to a healthy, happy and fulfilling life.

Veterans experiencing chronic pain, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), suicidal thoughts or substance misuse issues should speak to their GP about specialist support.

Some older veterans may encounter the same health challenges as anyone as part of the normal consequence of aging, for example different types of dementia, loneliness and frailty. Visit the NHS website for further information and advice.
