Truth. Is poetry... by GA Whittaker

I can tell you now a truth
And put it into words of verse and rhyme,
Or just wrap it into long strands of time
And let it out one word to smooth and chime.
My poetry is all I have.
I may be of a mind to hide the full course
Of all that happened
And not to say it as it was.
And keep it as a dark horse
And keep it wrapped.
What would I gain from saying now
The full truth of that time and place?
And spare you despair and vow
Never to believe me again-
And rest in my disgrace.
So poetry is my vessel of truth,
To use words and mix the analogies of me.
So that I may continue to enjoy my youth
And tell you only what I choose for you to see.
And let the rhymes of life continue to deceive.
