Small steps plan

Create a small steps plan with the pupil and family to encourage success.

  • EBSA Plans should include small, achievable, supported steps
  • share the plan with all staff and ensure a consistent message/approach
  • ensure the child can achieve the step before moving to the next one; do not put too much pressure on them too soon
  • regularly review and tweak the plan as needed
  • recognise that reducing anxiety takes time, so expect slow progress... and even some steps backwards
  • an EBSA Plan can only work when the school, parent/carer and child all want the plan to succeed
