AWE Text Alert

You can now sign up to receive emergency text alerts from AWE.

What are the emergency text alerts from AWE?

While it is hoped you'll never need to be contacted in the event of an emergency at the AWE, it is vital to have quick and effective methods in place should this be required. The fastest way to do this is through emergency text alerts which residents, businesses and local organisations can sign up to.

The text alert will be sent in the event of a Radiation Emergency at AWE, alerting you to this and the action you should take. You can sign up to receive alerts from the Aldermaston site, Burghfield site, or both.

How do I sign up?

Text "A" to 0786 003 0391 to register for the Aldermaston site alert; text "B" for Burghfield or "Both" to register for incident alerts at both sites.

Once your number has been added to the list, you will receive the response message: "Thank you. Your mobile number has been added to the [Chosen Option] list."

You can also unsubscribe to alerts by Texting "Stop A" to 0786 003 0391 to register for the Aldermaston site alert; text "Stop B" for Burghfield or "Stop Both" to register for incident alerts at both sites.

Why should I sign up?

Currently you would be notified by an automatic call to your landline and through media reports if an incident occurred. However, some people no longer use a landline. This new alert system, sent to your mobile phone, would ensure you are alerted even if you are not at home at the time of an emergency. You cannot be signed up automatically, you need to register.

How do I know if I am in the area?

You can find out if you live or work within the Detailed Emergency Planning Zone for either of the AWE sites, by looking at our interactive map
