Hop on for free! Festive bus travel returns to West Berkshire
Three Saturdays of free travel in December to help you enjoy the season
We are pleased to bring back free festive bus travel this December, helping residents get into the holiday spirit without the worry of travel costs.
On Saturday 6, 13 and 20 December, all bus journeys that start in West Berkshire will be completely free - and your return journey will be free too. Just remember to ask the driver for a return ticket when you board. Concessionary Bus Passes will continue to be accepted as normal.
Whether you're exploring the beautiful Christmas lights across the district, popping into local shops, fairs and town-centre restaurants for gifts and festive treats, or travelling to visit family and friends throughout the festive season, this offer makes it easier and greener to get around.
This initiative has been developed with the support of Reading Buses, Newbury & District, Thames Travel, Stagecoach, and the council's own Connect buses. Together, we're encouraging residents to travel sustainably while enjoying everything West Berkshire has to offer this festive season.
A special West Berkshire Community Connect timetable will also run in the Northwest Downlands and Thatcham Connect areas. Further details can be found here.
Cllr Stuart Gourley, Executive Member for Environment and Highways at West Berkshire Council, said:
"We're delighted to offer free festive bus travel again this year. It's a simple way to bring communities together during one of the busiest times of the year.
"Whether you're visiting loved ones, enjoying the Christmas lights, or supporting local shops and events, we want to make it easier and more affordable for everyone to get around and make the most of this festive season."
This free bus travel offer has been made possible by funding from HM Government, given to West Berkshire Council to support bus service improvements through our Enhanced Partnership with local bus operators.
