Before you book
Permits
If you're a West Berkshire Council resident, make sure you have a permit before you book an appointment.
There are three types of permit: car permits, commercial type vehicle permits and a temporary one-day pass. See our recycling centre permits pages for further information.
If you're a non-resident, you do not need a permit, but you can only visit our recycling centres in a car and will need to pay £9 per visit.
Check what you can take
Make sure you check that what you want to dispose of can be taken to the site. If there is an issue with disposing or recycling of a type of material, we may have to stop accepting it.
How to book an appointment
You can book an appointment online.
At the start of the form, you'll be asked if you're a West Berkshire resident and have an online permit.
Once taken to the booking page, simply choose a time slot and complete the required information. You will need to enter the car registration of the vehicle you will use to visit the site.
Once you have submitted your request you will be sent a confirmation email confirming your booking.
Time slots
We release slots for the recycling centres two weeks in advance.
We have two recycling centres: Newtown Road, Newbury and Padworth Lane. If there are no time slots for one recycling centre, you can see if there are slots available for the other.
How to cancel or reschedule
If you would like to cancel or reschedule your appointment, you will need to use the cancellation link on your appointment confirmation email sent from noreply@westberks.gov.uk.
The link will allow you to cancel your appointment or reschedule for another time if available.
If you've lost your confirmation email, please call customer services to cancel your appointment.
What to do before your visit
Before you travel to one of our recycling centres, make sure that you:
- have booked an appointment
- double check to see if what you want to dispose of can be taken to the site
- consider the site layout when loading waste into your car (you can find this on our Newtown Road, Newbury and Padworth Lane site pages)
- check travel times and any restrictions in place
- have a copy of your booking confirmation with you (either a print-out or on your phone)
Non-residents
If you're not a resident of West Berkshire, you can still access both of our HWRCs in a car by paying £9 per visit upon arrival.
See our non-residents recycling centre page for further information.
Visiting the recycling centre in a hire van
To visit our recycling centres in a hire van, you'll need a temporary-one day pass.
